James Lee Hansen
Master sculptor James Lee Hansen's career began during WWII and has since grown to define the unique genius of Northwest art. It is perhaps this lengthiness that allows Hansen’s monumental bronzes to sincerely and effectively explore ancient anthropological themes of mythology, cultural relativism, and symbolic expression. The influence of both Pacific Northwest Indian and Chinese art, which grew during Hansen’s germinal period at the Portland Art Museum School in 1950, is also evident in his work. Hansen currently lives and does all his own casting at his studio in Battleground, Washington.
