Sarah B. Whalen

Graphic and flattened, and as erotic and sensual as Japanese Shunga prints, Sarah B. Whalen’s ink drawings vivify the physicality of the sexual act in its every configuration. These acts are reflective of Whalen’s own interpersonal tendencies; when feeling lonely, she opts to portray solitary masturbatory figures. When feeling socially active, she draws energetic amorous couples in rapture. Intimate vantage points provide an alternately humorous, beautiful and contorted glimpse of bodies in the throes of passion.

A sculptor and printmaker, Whalen holds a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts. She grew up in Sebastopol, California, and lives and works in San Francisco, California. Get Naked marks the debut of this series of work.
