Claire Brandt

Claire Brandt assertively depicts her own body without feint, trick or distraction. In a painterly dissection that powerfully conveys the subtleties of bone structure and the nuances of skin and musculature, Brandt paints in the skeletal structure of the body first and then covers it with a wash of paint for skin. The confident stance of two feet planted and the suspense of the stretch celebrate the body’s exquisite structure, presence and power and convey a vital presence that is deeply felt.

Brandt is a Harvard University graduate with a degree in English and American Literature. She also holds an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Brandt lives and works in Seattle, Washington.
