BRYAN OHNO GALLERY

IRENE KUBOTA

CV

Kubota's monumental acrylic paintings appear on the westcoast for the first time at the Bryan Ohno Gallery.  After receiving her MFA from Syracuse University, Kubota gained recognition in the form of the Guggenheim Fellowship in Painting, regular shows at the Phyllis Kind Gallery in New York, and inclusion in the private collections of Rolex, Citiban, and the Kresge Foundation.  Kubota's simple figures belie more complex allegories of trust and loss creating according to former New York Times art critic John Russel, 'a look of gown-up fairy tale that repays investigation."
